For
those patients who have suffered the ravages
of acne there would be multiple residual
scars. Such scars in the absence of active
acne are treated with subcision of the
deep scars which releases the fibrous
tissues that tethers the scars to the
underlying skin. Following this the Pixel
Erbium Laser is used on the scar areas
in three to five sessions at fortnightly
intervals.
The
Harmony Alma system is used to perform
fractional ablative skin resurfacing where
only a fraction of skin mosaic is injured.
The intact undamaged skin in the treatment
site promotes quicker healing for faster
recovery. There is no pain associated
with this treatment and a Zimmer cryo
is used to chill the skin. The treated
skin remains brownish for three days after
which it peels off showing formation of
soft new skin with reduction of scar tissue.
A new three pronged technique for treatment of acne scars has commenced at Derma-Care.
First a Dermaroller with fine steel pins is used to fragment the fibrous scars in the mid dermis, where the soft collagen has been damaged and ice pick scars have replaced healthy tissue.
Immediately after this, we use the Candela 1450 Diode Laser which penetrates to 500 microns (which is the exact level of scars). The thermal injury is limited to upper papillary dermis and damaged collagen is replaced by growth of new collagen.
Finally the Pixel Erbium Laser is used to smoothen the scarring on the surface. Three sessions are required at six week intervals, but the intervals between two sessions can be extended up to three months.
Each session leads to significant softening of scars and reduction in depth. Shortly after the third session there is good improvement in colour and texture of the skin and effacement of scar tissue.
Thereafter, use of sunscreens daily is required to protect the newly formed skin. If your step in with acne scars, you will step out with confidence.
